Comense Ltd is a specialist, independent seed breeding company founded in 2003 by David Chisholm. The company has specialised in developing a novel range of compact edible varieties in crops such as Sweet Peppers, Chili Peppers, Aubergine and Tomato. These varieties are offered wholesale to a network of customers in the professional horticulture and home garden sectors who distribute Comense products as seed and young plants globally.

Comense is based in Norwich, UK and also has breeding activity firmly established in Costa Rica. Seed is produced using a network of global distribution partners, selected for their excellence in delivering high seed quality in respect of seed performance and phytosanitary standards.

Comense is driven by an ethos of close partnership with both our suppliers and customers to offer novel products with excellent seed quality. In the past 12 months, Comense has invested significantly in developing in-house seed technology and processing capabilities to enhance our offer.

On 1st April 2025, Comense absorbed the Hortconsult range into its portfolio. Hortconsult was founded by Barrie Sims in 2010 and has developed an impressive range of specialist and unusual Chili and Sweet Pepper varieties. The Hortconsult portfolio is very complementary to the vegetable programme of Comense and will add breadth and excitement to the assortment.

Comense is also increasingly active in a targeted range of major ornamental flower seed species. These varieties are marketed and distributed by our global partners.
